Anadromy is a cast glass reverse relief sculpture exploring the lives of young salmon as they begin to travel the oceans, having migrated there from the rivers of their births. They stay together, in dense shoals, relying on their numbers to protect them from predators. Years later, they will leave this ocean environment to return to the rivers where they began their lives to begin the process anew.

This sculpture is a reminder that sometimes we are stronger together, rather than facing the world alone.

In producing the piece I wanted to somehow convey the movement, the churning nature of their environment, so I produced the piece in a way that would retain bubbles in the glass. I’m very pleased with the effect. You can almost hear their underwater home.

Glass is 17” x 5.5” x 2”
